I am passionate about seeing people grow and develop, turning dreams into wonderful businesses or careers, fulfilling at so many different levels: for themselves, their families and their communities.
I want to help entrepreneurial creatives to create businesses they can be truly proud of.
I am very interested in working with creatives and organisations to develop creative and innovative ways of learning, financing, working and doing business together.
What I do
I am a passionate, honest and practical creative business expert who works with designers and makers at any stage in their career.
My ideal clients are entrepreneurial creatives who want to create the right business for them. Who are eager to learn, want to be challenged and are ready to make changes to their life and business.
I work as a business adviser, trainer, coach and mentor. I specialise in business development, marketing and sales.
Most of my work now takes place online (through The Design Trust!), with all the flexibility, creativity and international reach that that offers – for my clients across the world, and myself as a small business.
I love writing and contribute regularly to guest posts on creative business advice. Since 2012 I write for Crafts Magazine in the UK as The Design Doctor.
I also work with organisations and universities as a trainer running creative business development workshops, developing (online) training programmes for other organisations, and as a creative business training consultant giving strategic advice or creating business plans. You can find more info about my training and consultancy services here.
How I work
As a creative business adviser I teach people skills and give you practical answers in how to do business planning, marketing, business modelling, selling, social media, costing and pricing and the like.
As a coach I ask the big questions so that you can create step-by-step the business that you really want. I help creatives to identify all the opportunities and get clarity when you are juggling too many things at once. I will challenge you to stop talking and get into action creating something bigger than you thought was possible. Yes, I will get you out of your comfort zone!
As a mentor I share with you my own up and down experiences as a Director of a my own small company.
If you want to work with me as an organisation or individual check out my consultancy & training services here.
Combining creativity, entrepreneurship and people management was probably always in my genes, with a creative mum who ran a gift shop in The Netherlands and a senior business executive as a dad.
Having graduated in Graphic Design in Belgium and Arts Management in the Netherlands, I came to London in the mid 1990′s. Ever since then I have worked in business development, training, advice and marketing.
I have worked at the Crafts Council, Design Nation/New Designers in Business, product design Studio Levien, Cultural Industries Development Agency (CIDA) in East London, and creative investment and high growth development consultancy Pembridge Partners.
I took over The Design Trust in 2011 from London Met University with the idea to develop a thriving online business school that would reach ambitious designers and makers across the word.
I live in North London with my husband (a graphic designer and typographer, who is Head of Design at Partners Andrews Aldridge) and two young daughters. In the limited spare time that I have got I enjoy reading management and marketing books, growing our own vegetables in our garden, and having fun in the playground or on our bikes. I am trying to get back into meditation and tai chi too …
