Selection Process
Design-Nation Selection 2011 - application process opens Autumn 2010

Email selection2011@designnation.co.uk to receive notification when the 2011 Selection Process opens.
Entry requirements:
  • completed form
  • your CV
  • 4-6 images of work on CD (300dpi jpegs A5 in size)
  • A4 contact sheet showing thumbnail images and filenames
Selection criteria:
Selection is based on four criteria.
  • Work must fit into one of the five categories on the website
  • Designer(s) must be established in business and based in the UK
  • The work should be well-made and well-designed (stand out in the marketplace)
  • Designer(s) must operate professionally and be able to complete orders reliably
The panel will consider design for production as well as commissioned work, batch produced and hand made pieces
Membership:
If selected, there is an annual subscription of £120 + VAT, which goes towards the cost of maintaining and marketing the website.
No commission is taken on orders or contracts obtained through the website.
About Design-Nation:
Design-Nation is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes the excellence of British design and provides business start-up advice to designers. It is part of London Metropolitan University.
Design-Nation activities are carried out through :

Design-Nation currently consists of over 150 designers in 5 categories (ceramics & glass, furniture, interior/exterior design & products, silver gold metalwork & jewellery, and textiles & fashion accessories). It includes work by Ron Arad, Fred Baier, Thomas Heatherwick, David Mellor, Wendy Ramshaw, Michael Sodeau and Helen Yardley, but also contains work by many more recent graduates. The aim is to build Design-Nation into an important resource for anyone wishing to buy, source or commission good design, a resource that reflects the generations of talented designers that have emerged in this country.
Judges:
The selection panel is made up of practitioners and industry professionals. In past years the panel has included Jasper Morrison, Jeremy Myerson, Jane Priestman, Robin Levien, Frances Sorrell (Sorrell Foundation), Paul Dyson (Goldsmiths Company), Sheridan Coakley.
